Print recycling - Ayydan - 06-15-2023

For those interested in the recycling stuff I want to do, I wanted to share the hardware I'm looking at to handle the shredding and extrusion

Shredder

Extruder

That compression screw on the extruder is something else.

Have you considered sintered/lostPLA casting the teeth for the grinder? I feel like that's the biggest limiting factor in making your own. You could even build them to accept carbide inserts

I could, but it'd likely cost more than one of these laser cut units by the end. You can get these units made in mild steel for about half the price, I just don't know where I could go to get it passivated

I do my heat treating in a wood stove.

Alternatively - you could talk me into the pottery kiln that's on my list

Getting access to a kiln would definitely make this a much more feasible task, but is the one your looking at able to get to temp to melt stainless?

not quite (2400F), but close. Do you need to melt it or just heat treat it? I can't get a quick answer on the temperature for passivating

If we're doing lost PLA casting it'd need to be melted. Passivating needs a coating to be applied to mild steel to prevent corrosion. Basically, the choice is cheaper mild steel with occasional maintenance, or more expensive stainless, but easier to work with
